June 5, 2024

discover it miles

Discover it miles card is a rewards-based credit card. Are you thinking of applying for the discover miles card?

Don’t worry. You have landed on the right page. Here, I will discuss the pros and cons of this card. I will also compare the Discover It Miles card’s features with other cards’ benefits.

So read till the end.

Did you know you can earn 1.5 miles per dollar spent on all purchases? And guess what? There’s no upper limit on the number of miles you can earn.

I will introduce you to some other card features in this overview section.

For instance, your miles are doubled at the end of the first year of your association with Discover Miles.

I also dug deep into many customer reviews about the Discover It Miles card in 2024. I sorted these features to justify why people like this card more than other similar cards:

  • No annual fee
  • Intro APR of 0% for 15 months on purchases and balance transfers
  • Unlimited Bonus: Unlimited Mile-for-Mile match for all new cardmembers

Flexible Rewards Redemption Options

Flexible Rewards Redemption Options

I think that most other cards do not allow you to check your FICO score for free. Moreover, I am fond of the flexible rewards scheme of the discover card miles too.

With this card, I can get travel credits or cash, as per my choice. The value of the Miles does not change anyway.

Pros

Pros

After scanning a bulk of reviews in 2024, I will talk about the pros of the card here.

No Annual Fee

Your discover travel miles card does not come with an annual charge. Many of you think your discover travel credit card will have a low limit, as it has no yearly fees.

Please stop thinking that only premium cards with higher limits charge annual fees.

Above all, there is no upper limit to the number of miles that you can earn here.

Intro APR Period

The benefits from your miles discover card do not end here. You can also enjoy an introductory APR of 0% during the initial 15 months.

This period is calculated from the date when you opened your account.

After 15 months, the standard applicable APR rate is 17.24% to 28.24%.

Flexible Rewards Redemption

Did you know you can enjoy flexible reward options with your discover miles credit card?

I guess you know now.

In the initial stage, your discover miles credit card will work as a regular travel credit card.

You keep earning 1.5 cents for each mile. After that you withdraw 1 cent against each mile. This value is added to your credit limit.

However, this scheme applies to all travel-related purchases in 180 days (about six months).

Wandering, how is this flexible?

Well, you can also convert your miles into cash and not travel credits.

If you redeem your rewards, it gives you higher leverage.  You can use the cash anytime later to fund your travel.

Free Access to FICO Score

Your miles discover card lets you check your FICO score for free. The Discover website says that:

We want you to check your Credit Scorecard without worry, which is why we offer it for free.”

No Foreign Transaction Fee

There are no foreign transaction fees for any Discover card. Similarly, the miles card discover does not charge any fees too.

This feature can help you save a lot when you travel abroad the next time. You can also save money when you make international purchases with your discover it miles card.

There are no transaction charges for international purchases, too.

Cons

Cons

There are some downsides of every card. Based on the 2024 reviews, I sorted three significant cons of this discover it miles card.

Requires Good/Excellent Credit

Most Discover cards demand a high FICO score. Like the Cash Back card, the Mile Card also requires a minimum score of 670. However, the chances of getting a reasonable credit limit increases if you have a score of 700

The discover it miles card reviews of 2024 list this as one of the significant demerits.

No Luxury Perks

There are no luxury travel advantages that other cards offer. For instance, the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card gives flexible cash-back rewards with other benefits to the customers.

Again, the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card also gives a 75000 mile bonus on sign-up.

However, I feel that the discover it miles compensates for this gap with the 2* bonus that it gives at the end of the year.

Lower Acceptance Abroad

One of the main limitations of your discover it miles card is its low foreign acceptance. It is not widely accepted outside the US.

In comparison, Visa and MasterCard are globally accepted.

Comparison with Other Cards

Comparison With Other Cards

Undoubtedly, the discover it miles card is one of the most popular cards in 2024. At least the reviews suggest that. But we must also match its perks with those of the other cards. Let’s see if it’s the best among all available travel and miles cars in the US.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

One of the main features of a sapphire card is that it charges $95 annually from the customers in the US. In comparison, discover it miles card charges $0 as annual fees, from the customers.

The discover it miles card does not charge any PAR percentage during the first 15 months. However, Chase Card users must pay a constant APR charge from the first day they receive it.

At the same time, The Chase card requires you to pay a variable APR of  21.49%-28.49%. In comparison it is higher than the Discover miles card. Discover charges 21.49%-28.49% variable APR.

I have also discovered that Americans mostly mostly use both cards. So, I don’t think that the Chase Sapphire is better than the Discover it miles, as per my comparison.

Bank of America® Travel Rewards credit card

The BOA card is trendy. In fact, it is the most accepted travel credit card, used by Americans.  Let’s compare the features of BOA and discover the miles card here.

Benefits and Perks

Benefits and Perks

You know the prime benefits of using the Discover it miles card now. Let’s sum up the benefits in this section.

Flexible Redemption Options

I believe it is the most lucrative reason to use a Discover Miles card. I can convert my miles earned at the end of the year into cash as well.

The rates remain the same if I take credit rewards or cash.

When the miles become two times at the end of the first year, it becomes lucrative.

No minimum Redemption Amount

This is the other reason why I favor this card. The minimum redemption value for Bank of America is 2500 points. But you can redeem any amount from the Discover it miles card.

The access to Discover’s free Social Security number monitoring service makes the card more unique.

Conclusion

If you are a big-time spender and love lavish tours, I won’t suggest this card. However, this card is most suitable for travel mongers. People who love traveling and prefer saving cash during travel can use this card.

This card is indeed the best option for them. Frequent travelers or bigger spenders may find other cards with higher rewards rates and perks beneficial, even with an annual fee.

You can use this card to pay for flight fare, ride sharing, restaurants, eateries, gas stations, and many more points of sale. At the same time, you earn miles each time you spend.

You get 1.5 miles for every penny you spend. So, if you spend $10000 your reward will be equivalent to 15000 miles.

Your earnings will become two times after the first year. You will enjoy the redemption flexibility as a bonus. I’d say it is perfect for budget travelers. The unique benefits like zero foreign transaction charges, will also attract them.  If you haven’t applied yet, grab your discover miles card now.
